The soldier is “Uncle Sam” – he is the symbol of the U.S. – he represents the U.S./the U.S. government.
In 1917, the Uncle Sam image (the U.S. government) was used in a WWI recruitment poster with the slogan “I want you for U.S. Army”
2. Which comic device do the cartoonists use to make their point? Explain your choice.
The cartoonists use:
