Here are the first and last paragraphs of a column by Jay Hancock in yesterday’s Baltimore Sun. See if you can guess the topic:

If you want to win an arms race, minor escalation is not the way to go. Only after President Ronald Reagan started developing a wildly expensive and impractical system to shoot down enemy missiles did the Soviet Union give up the Cold War. . . .

Anyway, the Soviet Union would have collapsed without the pressure from Reagan’s “Star Wars” boondoggle.

If you guessed anything having to do with nuclear strategy, the Reagan presidency, U.S.-Soviet relations, the 1980s or Jedi mythology, you’re wrong. Hancock writes for the Sun’s business section, and this column was about a proposed new Charm City convention center.
