Waiting for Superman
“Florida officials are investigating an unemployment agency that spent public money to give 6,000 superhero capes to the jobless,” the Associated Press reports from Orlando:

Workforce Central Florida spent more than $14,000 on the red capes as part of its “Cape-A-Bility Challenge” public relations campaign. The campaign featured a cartoon character, “Dr. Evil Unemployment,” who needs to be vanquished.

The Orlando Business Journal reports that the agency has canceled the program:

“Even though it seemed to offend some, it was the farthest thing from our intention which was to introduce our programs and services to job seekers and employers who need them,” Workforce Board Chairman Owen Wentworth, who appeared in a promotional video on the program, said in a prepared statement.

The board acknowledged that the cape program was “a little too out-of-the-box and missed the mark with such a broad audience.” Also, who would hire someone who showed up to an interview dressed as Superman? (Note: This entry is from the 4/20 BOTW)
