Man of the House
“Republican congresswomen appear more ‘feminine’ than their Democrat counterparts, according to a new study by UCLA psychology researchers,” reports the Huffington Post:

“Female politicians with stereotypically feminine facial features are more likely to be Republican than Democrat, and the correlation increases the more conservative the lawmaker’s voting record,” said study author Colleen M. Carpinella, a UCLA graduate student in psychology, in an article posted to the UCLA Newsroom website…

However, the researchers were quick to point out this does not mean that Republican politicians are more attractive.

“This is a mistake I’ve already seen [journalists make],” [co-author Kerri] Johnson told the Huffington Post [sic]. “In no way did we measure facial attractiveness.”

That last assertion seems dubious to us, but hey, we have an idea for an experiment to put it to the test. Have a male psychology student approach, say, four dozen women at random in a public place and deliver the following line to each: “Excuse me, but I saw you across the room, and I had to come over to tell you: You have a very masculine face.”

If more than half of the female subjects take it as a compliment, we’ll accept it as confirmation of the Kerri Johnson hypothesis.
