Question and Answer–I
He’s Pro-Immigrant, Except When He’s Anti-Anti-Communist
“Are you ever discouraged when friends or loved ones say disparaging things about immigrants?” asks Jim Wallis, a leftist Christian theologian. “You know that if you could just get them to hear the stories of hardworking people who love God, their communities, and their families that you just might be able to get them to change their mind? Then please, watch this trailer”–for a documentary called “The Stranger.”
Well, here’s a discouraging quote disparaging immigrants, from an old Weekly Standard piece: “Many of today’s refugees were inoculated with a taste for a Western lifestyle during the war years and are fleeing to support their consumer habit in other lands.” That was a reference to the Vietnamese boat people in 1979. The guy who said it is neither a friend nor a loved one but–Jim Wallis.
