Is 60 the New 70?
Did a New York Times columnist just call for the government to permit age discrimination? A straightforward reading of Charles Blow’s Saturday offering would lead to an affirmative answer. Blow faults Republicans for supposed racial insensitivity, including criticism of President Obama over the swelling rolls of food stamps (known by the euphemistic acronym SNAP, for Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program). Here is some of what he has in mind:

First, according to the United States Department of Agriculture, most SNAP participants are either too old or too young to work. Forty-seven percent were under age 18, and 8 percent were 60 or older.

[NY Times columnist] Maureen Dowd, who turns 60 Saturday, may want to sit down for a chat with her young colleague.
