Abridged Too Far
“A new anti-discrimination ordinance is going to the Jackson City Council,” reports the Jackson (Mich.) Citizen Patriot:

The ordinance, approved Wednesday by the Jackson Human Relations Commission, says no person shall be denied equal protection of the law, their [sic] civil or political rights or be discriminated against because of “actual or perceived race, color, religion, national origin, sex, age, height, weight, condition of pregnancy, marital status, physical or mental limitation, source of income, family responsibilities or status, educational association, sexual orientation, gender identity, gender expression or HIV status.”

An insensitive remark by a member of the council shows why such laws are necessary even in the 21st century:

The motion to approve the second version of the ordinance was approved 5-1, with Joe Smith Jr. voting ”no” and Teressa Delph and Alice Lewis abstaining.

Smith said he preferred the first version because it was shorter.

Shame on Joe Smith for discriminating on the basis of actual or perceived height!
