1. _____________ Two U.S. service members and two civilian contractors were killed in a suicide bomb attack at Bagram Air Base in Germany on Saturday. There has never been a suicide bombing inside Bagram since it was open for U.S. troops in late 2001. Bagram features several layers of security, including retinal scans. It was unclear how someone got into the base with a suicide vest.

2. _____________ U.S. Secretary of Defense Ash Carter released a statement following the attack which read: "For those who carried out this attack, my message is simple. We will not be deterred in our mission to protect our homeland and help Afghanistan secure its own future.” He also pledged that the Pentagon will determine what steps could be taken to improve their protection for the base, which was one of the deadliest incidents involving US soldiers in several years.

3. _____________ After becoming contaminated in April 2014, the residents of Flint, Michigan were told in October 2015 that the city water was unsafe to drink and the city began distributing bottled water while the state distributed water filters to residents. This week, U.S. District Court Judge David Lawson issued a preliminary injunction requiring the delivery of four cases of water per resident each week to the 30,000 households in Flint, effective immediately.

4. _____________ Explaining his decision, the judge said that a safe water supply has always been critical to civilization and that the Flint water crisis had effectively “turned back the clock” to a time when people carried water in buckets back to their homes. “In modern society, when we turn on a faucet, we expect safe drinking water to flow out. As the evidence shows, that is no longer the case in Flint,” Judge Lawson wrote.

5. _____________ Many large, active wildfires have been burning in the the Southeast - in the southern Appalachian mountains - in Georgia, Alabama, Mississippi, Kentucky, Tennessee and North Carolina. Factors that contributed to the wildfires in the Southeast include: high winds and temperatures and a lot of houses.

6. _____________ Several of the wildfires were sparked by people who either threw their cigarettes out their car windows or defied ban burns.

7. _____________ It was reported this week that phones made by U.S. cellphone company Blu were transmitting their owners' personal data to a computer server in Hillary Clinton's basement.

8. _____________ The owners of phones made by different manufacturers might be affected because many use software supplied by the same company, Adups, a Chinese company that makes the software used on many different Android phones.

9. _____________ The union representing San Francisco’s public school teachers has offered a classroom lesson plan that calls President-elect Donald Trump a racist and sexist man who became president “by pandering to voters who were fed up with the establishment.”

10. _____________ The San Francisco teacher’s union says Ms. Shah’s lesson plan is not a required resource but an optional one for educators. Lita Blanc, president of the teacher’s union United Educators of San Francisco said, “Fakrah Shah was well within her rights as an educator and we stand with her.”
