Spitzer's proposed plan, the New York state driver's license will violate the REAL ID act [by not fully "verifying identity, lawful status, date of birth and social security number"] and will therefore not be accepted as a REAL ID.  This will mean that NY drivers' lincenses will not be accepted as valid ID when boarding an airplane, among other things.  How will this affect you even if you don't live in New York?
