NOTE:
(by Josh Christenson and Caitli Doornbos, NY Post) – Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu told the United Nations General Assembly in [an] address on Friday that his nation must “finish the job” in its war against Hamas terrorists and secure the release of all remaining hostages from Gaza.
[In addition], Netanyahu called for the total defeat of Iran and its “terror axis” proxies in Iraq, Syria and Yemen — while taking a victory lap over Israel’s decimation of Hezbollah’s ranks in Lebanon.“The final remnants of Hamas are holed up in Gaza City. They vow to repeat the atrocities of Oct. 7 again and again and again — no matter how diminished their forces,” declared Netanyahu, ignoring a walkout by dozens of delegates just before he began his remarks.
“That is why Israel must finish the job; that is why we want to do so as fast as possible.”
“Remember those beepers?” Netanyahu said of Israel’s devastating September 2024 operation in which explosives were placed inside pagers carried by Hezbollah terrorists.
“We paged Hezbollah. And believe me, they got the message. And thousands of terrorists dropped to the ground.”
Netanyahu also rejected recognition of a Palestinian state, which several US allies [including the UK, France, Canada and Australia] have done ahead of this year’s General Assembly.
“Giving the Palestinians a state, one mile from Jerusalem after Oct. 7,” he said, “is like giving al Qaeda a state one mile from New York City after Sept. 11.”
“This is sheer madness, it’s insane and we won’t do it,” he added. “We will not commit national suicide because you [Western leaders] don’t have the guts to face down a hostile media and antisemitic mobs demanding Israel’s blood.”
Netanyahu later accused British Prime Minister Keir Starmer, French President Emmanuel Macron and others who moved to officially recognize a Palestinian state of sending a message to the rest of the world that “murdering Jews pays off” while giving Hamas “a pass” on its “genocidal” ambitions.
“Israel is accused of deliberately starving the people of Gaza when Israel is deliberately feeding the people of Gaza,” he [emphasized] at one point. “Since the beginning of the war, Israel has let into Gaza more than 2 million tons of food and aid.”
“That’s 1 ton of aid for every man, woman, and child in Gaza, nearly 3,000 calories per person per day,” he added. “Some starvation policy.”
(An “average” man is advised to consume between 2,000 and 3,000 calories daily.)
Netanyahu also sent a message of hope to the remaining hostages [which he gave first in Hebrew then in English], with loudspeakers set up across Gaza to broadcast portions of his speech.
“Our brave heroes, this is Prime Minister Netanyahu speaking to you, live from the United Nations,” he told them. “We have not forgotten you, not even for a second. The people of Israel are with you. We will not falter and we will not rest until we bring all of you home.”
The prime minister also sent a message to Palestinian civilians on their cellphones, which he [noted] had been hacked by [Israeli] intelligence [to send the message through].
“To the remaining Hamas leaders and to the jailers of our hostages, I now say, ‘Lay down your arms. Let my people go,’” Netanyahu said, quoting Moses.
“Free the hostages, all of them, the whole 48, free the hostages,” he added. “Now if you do, you will live. If you don’t, Israel will hunt you down.”
As he spoke, dozens of anguished families of hostages kidnapped or killed by the Palestinian terror group gathered [outside the UN] and blasted Netanyahu, desperately urging him to end the war and secure the release of the 48 remaining captives.
“Too many of our people are being killed, too many are being killed,” Orna Neutra, the mother of hostage Omer Neutra, said outside the UN while holding her son’s photo.
“We need this war to end. It’s time for action, not long speeches. To all world leaders, bring our hostages home, bring them home now. Bring them home! All of them back.”
….. The father of dual Israeli-US hostage Itay Chen, who was killed by Hamas on Oct. 7 said,
“I hope that the Prime Minister understands that he has a job to finish. The job is to get 48 hostages home. Not 20, not 15, and not five. All 48 hostages need to get out and we want all them now, we want all of them now.”

1. What has Hamas vowed to do, as related by Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu during his address to the UN on Friday?
2. What is Israel doing in response?
3. a) Define proxy.
b) In addition to Hamas in Gaza, in what countries are Iran's other terrorist proxies located?
4. a) What did the prime minister say about world leaders' (including many U.S. allies) recognition of a Palestinian state? Be specific.
b) What did Prime Minister Netanyahu accuse Western leaders of doing?
5. a) How did Netanyahu refute the widespread accusation that Israel is deliberately starving the people of Gaza?
b) As UN food aid trucks enter Gaza, many times Hamas terrorists hijack the trucks and bring them to their own warehouses. They use the food to feed their fighters - and also sell it on the black market for exorbitant prices, although all is intended to be distributed to Gazans for FREE. There have also been several reports of Hamas shooting Gazan men who were caught trying to take some of the food off the trucks for their families. Last week, the UN reported that Hamas terrorists hijacked a truckload of baby formula.
Is the media doing a good job of reporting the truth?
Do you think those protesting against Israel know the truth? Explain your answer.
6. a) What message did Netanyahu give Hamas terrorist leaders during his address?
b) What warning did he give?
7. Israel's message to Hamas is simple: release all of the hostages now, and surrender, or we will destroy you. If Hamas ends their reign of terror, the Gazans could also be free of war.
Why do you think the media frames the narrative with a strong emphasis on the humanitarian disaster in Gaza, with no focus on the intentional ongoing starvation and mistreatment of the hostages by Hamas?
OPTIONAL: Following his Sept 23 meeting with Arab and Muslim leaders regarding the conflict, President Trump will be meeting with Prime Minister Netanyahu at the White House on Monday, Sept. 29. The president is optimistic that a deal can be reached. Find videos from the press conference. Do you think peace will be achieved soon? Explain your answer.
Prime Minister Netanyahu wore a pin with a QR code during his speech. More than one million scans of the QR code were recorded in the 24 hours following the speech — with about 30% of them from Iran and Gaza, the prime minister’s spokesperson said on Saturday.
The QR code leads to a website documenting the Hamas-led atrocities of Oct. 7, 2023, in Israel’s northwestern Negev.
“Much of the world no longer remembers Oct. 7,” Netanyahu said. “But we remember. Israel remembers Oct. 7.” He encouraged attendees to zoom in using their phones on a QR code lapel pin that he wore that links to a website with graphic images and videos of the Oct. 7 attacks.
The Israeli premier also spoke of the potential for peace with Syria and Lebanon:
“We have begun serious negotiations with the new Syrian government,” Netanyahu said. “I believe an agreement can be reached that respects Syria’s sovereignty and protects both Israeli security and the security of the minorities in the region, including the Druze minority.”
“Peace between Israel and Lebanon is possible as well. I call on the Lebanese government to also begin direct negotiations with Israel,” he added. "I’m sure that if the Lebanese Government persists in its goal of disarming Hezbollah, peace will come very speedily and very readily,” Netanyahu said.
