When a doctor, teacher, or police officer commits a serious crime, media outlets almost never withhold the person’s name or relevant background.
The selective omission of immigration status and national origin in fraud cases involving immigrants is a real inconsistency that many people notice and criticize. The information is public, so withholding it does not protect privacy — it mainly shapes how the story is framed for readers.
