[I am] “the happiest man alive.” [I swam the English Channel to inspire all those] “who think life is nothing but suffering.”
Frenchman Philippe Croizon, a 42-year-old former metalworker, who became the first limbless person to swim 21 miles across the English Channel on September 18, 2010. Mr. Croizon lost his limbs in an electrical accident 16 years ago. He only taught himself to swim in the past two years, during which time he trained for 35 hours a week using prosthetic legs and a snorkel and mask.
