Questions Nobody Is Asking
“The question is: Why don’t we have redistributive mechanisms in place to deploy the trillions of dollars in new wealth our economy has created to shore up the standard of living of low- and moderate-income workers, to restore financial stability to Medicare and Social Security, to improve educational resources and to institute broader and more reliable forms of social insurance?”–Thomas Edsall, New York Times, Sept. 24

All the News That’s Fit to Stretch
Dean Baquet, executive editor of the New York Times, “announced broad changes to the newspaper’s leadership on Wednesday, replacing titles that had been used for decades and promoting several senior editors,” the Times reports. We doubt the details will interest our readers, but this quote caught our attention:

[Baquet] added, “Our goals are to get more readers, to continue to stretch the boundaries of storytelling in a mobile world that allows us to do things we never imagined, to take on ever larger targets with our investigative reporting, and to expand our ability to cover a world in turmoil.”

They’re going to “stretch the boundaries of storytelling”? Isn’t that what got one of Baquet’s predecessors in trouble back in 2003?
