Bottom Story of the Day
“Trudeau Tells 60 Minutes Canadians Want Americans to Pay More Attention to World”—headline, Globe and Mail (Toronto), March 5

George W. Bush Nostalgic for Sean Penn—Now That Would Be News
“Sean Penn Is Nostalgic for George W. Bush”—headline, USA Today website, March 5

It’s Always in the Last Place You Look

  • “Astronomers Spot Galaxy a Record 13.4 Billion Light-Years From Earth”—headline, Associated Press, March 4
  • “Seeking Grace in Politics”—headline, Pittsburgh Tribune-Review, March 5

Half and Half
“AP-GfK Poll: About Half of Americans Confident in Tap Water,” reads an Associated Press headline. Our reaction was that a pessimist would say half of Americans lack confidence. Reporter Emily Swanson had a similar instinct, beginning the dispatch: “Only about half of Americans are very confident in the safety of their tap water.”

Of course an optimist who isn’t confident would say the glass is half-full.
