Sarah Churman, a 29 year old mother-of-two from Texas, who was born with a rare condition where the hairs in the middle of her ear did not form, leaving her almost completely deaf.  She was given a hearing aid at the age of two but could only hear indistinct sounds, not voices.  She underwent pioneering surgery in September to have an Esteem hearing device implanted into her head.  Eight weeks after the nine-hour operation, the device was turned on.  In a video which her husband filmed as the implant was switched on, Sarah hears herself laugh.  Overcome with emotion at hearing herself for the first time, she then bursts into tears.  The Churmans posted the video on YouTube where it has been viewed over eight million times to date.  Watch the video below:
