Just Hollywood

Question

Which one of the following admonitions best describes the point Nowak is making in his cartoon?  Why?

  • "An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure."  -Ben Franklin
  • "Why do you look at the speck in your brother's eye, but do not notice the log that is in your own eye?"  -Matthew 7:3
  • "Never put off till tomorrow what you can do today."  -Thomas Jefferson
  • Never give in - never, never, never, never, in nothing great or small, large or petty, never give in except to convictions of honor and good sense. Never yield to force; never yield to the apparently overwhelming might of the enemy.  -Winston Churchill

Answer

"Why do you look at the speck in your brother's eye, but do not notice the log that is in your own eye?" (Matthew 7:3)
Nowak is pointing out the hypocrisy of Hollywood celebrities who criticize people for driving "gas-guzzlers" while traveling around in their private planes, SUVs and limos.  The point is that they should concern themselves with their own astronomical fuel consumption rather than that of the fuel use of average citizens.
